Manawa Ora is an intensive, performance-based arts mentoring project that supports our rangatahi to creatively explore their own life experiences, so that they can see themselves in a different light and begin to transform their own lives.
Our rangatahi are matched up one-to-one with an actor, musician, writer or artist. Over a series of creative workshops artist-mentors share their creative process, and together each partnership creates a collaborative work based on the life of the rangatahi. These works are then brought to the stage during the Manawa Ora season. This performance season is held in professional theatres in Central and South Auckland.
The Manawa Ora process also includes intensive professional development and induction for all artist-mentors. Mindfulness and yoga is part of each day of the project, and there is also in-project and ongoing support available for all rangatahi and artist-mentors as part of the organisation-wide self-care program.
